Helping Others: Working Together to Make Difference
Marianne Yoshioka, MSW, PhD is the Senior Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs and Associate Professor of Professional Practice in Social Work at Columbia University. She is a leading expert on culturally appropriate interventions related to domestic violence, addictions, marital and family therapy, and HIV prevention, particularly in Asian and other immigrant communities in the U.S. Dr. Yoshioka shares her insights on working within the Asian community on domestic violence issues.
Beatrice Lee, MPA, is the Executive Director of Community Health for Asian Americans (CHAA), a nonprofit organization based in Oakland, California. Formerly known as Asian Pacific Psychological Services, CHAA provides behavioral health, youth development, and family support services to the underserved Asian/Pacific Islander community of the Bay Area. Under Beatrice’s leadership, the organization has experienced impressive growth, expanding to five locations with a multicultural staff proficient in 13 Asian languages and dialects.
Rebecca Sze is the Director of Women’s Health at the Charles B. Wang Community Health Center in New York. She is also their Director of Nursing. Founded in 1971, the Center provides primary care and social services to underserved Asian Americans, serving more than 32,000 patients annually. Nearly 98% of patients are served in a language other than English.
