The National Asian American Reproductive Health and Rights Project

Since 1995, NAWHO has engaged in research, leadership development, advocacy, and collaboration to ensure the reproductive and sexual health rights of Asian American women. NAWHO has conducted several health assessments among different sub-groups within the Asian American population to investigate their reproductive and sexual health knowledge and practices. The findings have become a powerful tool for educating policymakers, health care professionals, and the general public, and for advocating for more inclusive and effective health policies and enhanced service delivery to Asian American women.

NAWHO has since built partnerships with other national and statewide reproductive rights advocacy organizations and trained Asian American women and men to become active leaders in reproductive health. In 2002, NAWHO launched a national reproductive health and rights campaign encouraging Asian parents to educate their adolescent children about reproductive health and safe sex behavior. The campaign seeks to promote responsible sexual behavior in an effort to reverse the growing rates of teen pregnancy and STDs in Asian American communities.
